How do I maintain a low-purine diet?
Some foods contain high levels of purine or directly increase uric acid production in your liver.
Here are some examples:
- Beer and other alcoholic drinks, except for wine
- Offal
- Poultry skin
- Seafood
- High-fat fish
- Brussels sprouts
- Mushrooms
- Juices with a high sugar content
More tips:
Make sure not to lose weight too quickly because rapid weight loss can trigger the onset of gout. To make it easier to pass uric acid, we recommend drinking enough liquid (at least 2 litres per day). Choose mineral water or unsweetened herbal teas or fruit infusions.
Even though the list of foods to avoid generically include alcohol, wine does not seem to influence uric acid levels. A moderate consumption of coffee can even lower uric acid levels.
